Does anyone know anything about it?? I smoke outside of my building (apartment.) I have never smoked around my daughters, not ever. I just got a almost threatening threat from the owner of this building. I called him and basically freaked on him about the drier being broke. 3 of the 4 washer/driers have been broke probably (guessing here) 4-5 times in the last 2 months. Numerous tenants have posted notes on the machines and even the wall saying that Bob (the owner whom in which doesn't even live here) owes them such and such amount of money.
Anyway, when I flipped on him (both driers are broke) and told him about the drier being broke he tried to blame me saying, "did you pack the drier full" and all this BS which obviously I DID NOT. Then he goes on to say that "I'm not allowed to smoke OUTSIDE anymore because it's bothering people and going into their apartment windows." I'm thinking WTF??? It's been like -15 (without windchill.) Who the f*** keeps their windows open when it's that cold?? I think he's blowing bubbles out his azz to be honest. Can he rightfully tell me I'm not allowed to smoke outside?? There is NOTHING written on the lease about smoking outside or even inside for that matter.

I would think about asking the other tenants and seeing if it DOES bother them?

Oh, and of course I am not in Canada, BUT, I am thinking its the same everywhere. You are living a property that belongs to him. On your lease it would state that you have use of the washers and dryers etc. If its part of your lease, then yes, they are held responsible. You can contact the Residential Tenancy Tribunal (something similar over there) and take him to court and get him warned etc?

He fixed the washers and the driers............. for now. I'm sure next week if not sooner at least 1 of them will be broke again. It's BS. So tired of the crap here. I just moved here in May of this year and I'm moving out when my lease is up. I live in the basement so it's not like I can go out onto my make belief balcony and smoke. Another words, there are no balconies in the basement apartments. He's just being a d**k as far as I'm concerned. He was here today. I was waiting for him to come banging at my door, but nothing. I know that 3/4 of the people in my building smoke in their apartments. It's only a small building with 12 apartments. I have 2 babies, what does he want me to do?? Go stand out on the street and be too far away so I can't hear my kids? That's almost a case of abandonment or neglict is it not? He's an idiot.

In a non-smoking facility or building, you must be a certain amount of feet away from the building (I think it is like 50 to 100 meters) when you are smoking.

It's not a non-smoking building. Like I said, 3/4 of the people in this building smoke in their apartments.
