Well, Tasha and I actually had some alone time yesterday so we went and saw the movie, "The Reaping". Niether of us are real "horror" movie fans. Actually I can't stand them myself. I have seen enough horrors in my real life. We both however enjoy the "classic" horror movies, meaning vampires, werewolves etc. Not simple "hack and slash" movies though. In classic horrors, they tend to be morality tales and not simply "cut and jump" flicks.
We were both very interested in "The Reaping" because the movie revolves around a minister that renounces her vows and cases down miracles and explains them with science. Once the movie gets rolling a bit, she gets asked to investigate a small town that appears to be set on by old testiment plagues.
I have to say that I really enjoyed the movie. It really made you think, messed with your head a bit, and kept me welded to the screen. It had a lot of brutal violence without being a hack n' slash blood fest. I'll admit, I even jumped a couple times and it takes a heck of a lot to make me jump after a decade and a half of being a tournament paintball player.
I recommend this movie if you like movies that suck you into the story. However, I will warn you now... If you have a problem with seeing hurt children or children in pain etc. then, you might want to skip this movie. Tasha DID NOT like the movie on that fact alone. She is nurse, but she has a real problem with children being hurt on purpose.
The only thing that I really didn't like was the ending. I'd explain but it would completely ruin the movie. And by the ending, I mean the very last two minutes. The twist is designed to make a direct lead in to a second movie. Typical horror movie, but how they chose to do it in this movie left the movie feeling "wrecked". I don't know how else to word it. It completely unraveled what I felt was a well thought out, well paced, and well timed movie.
