Well, I was sick today. Yesterday I think I got food poisoning from dinner, as I was ill last night and this morning. Anyway, while home, I used "Rogers on Demand" to rent the movie "Man of the Year" starring Robin Williams.
I know I have made it quiet clear that I don't like politics and this movie is completely about politics. Well... it's not that I don't like politics, it's that I care "too much". Anyway, I'm a huge Robin Williams stand up comedy fan. Since this movie is directly geared towards that, I had to see it.
I have to say, that I really enjoyed the movie. It's completely fake but the concepts are very possible. Basically, Robin is a TV comedian that decides to run for President and aparently wins. However, his win is questionable due to a computer glitch that occured in a brand new computer polling system. A programer discovers the glitch and tries to get people to listen but gets met with very hostile resistance.
I was expecting a comedy with strong political undertones. It was that, but it was also a very strong morality tale about right and wrong. It made me question my personal values and what I would do in a similiar situation.
My main beef with this movie was the "logic holes". Prime example... Robin won the election to became the president of the US. He is surrounded by secret service agents. These agents are there to protect him. He needs to find a person but can't figure out how.... Yah think maybe asking the guy standing beside you with the gun, badge and radio might be a good step?
But then... that would imply that a president actually has a brain and that would make the movie really unbeleavable...
